Data sources and licences

The list of gyms (names, addresses, locations, websites, phone numbers) is built from open data. Prices are not: every price is read from the gym’s own website or a chain’s official page, with its source and date (see the methodology).

Overture Maps Places

• Licence: Community Data License Agreement – Permissive, Version 2.0 (CDLA-Permissive-2.0). Overture Places contains no OpenStreetMap data.
• It includes records Overture takes from Foursquare OS Places (Apache License 2.0, © Foursquare Labs, Inc.) and AllThePlaces (CC0 1.0), whose records come from the chains’ own club finders.

The chains’ own sites

Which clubs a chain has is checked against that chain’s own list of its clubs; a club’s prices come from its own page on the chain’s site. Chain names appear only as facts; we are not affiliated with any gym or chain.

• Business counts: County Business Patterns, NAICS 713940 (public domain), used to check the list is complete.

What we never use

Nothing is taken from Google Maps, Yelp, OpenStreetMap, ClassPass, Mindbody or any other directory: no names, ratings, reviews or photos.
